Away
The sudden death of George W. Oakley Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son,
Plato Oakley, near Osborne brought sadness t to the many friends of this
splendid citizen, His health had been failing for some time, but he had been up
and about . Only a short time before death came, he began to complain 06d was
carried into the room, but died within a few minutes.
Mr. Oakley passed
his 80th birthday on 17 March and had been a lifelong citizen of the Blackland
and Osborne communities. He was married in early life and raised a large family
of splendid sons and daughters. His wife passed away over 20 years ago and
since that time he had lived with his children.
He was an outstanding citizen and lived a quiet life, devoted to his
family, his friends, and his community. He always stood for better things, and
did his best to instill principles of right living into the lives of his
children. He was a member of
He is survived by five sons, Robert S., Thomas D., Claude and Plato of
Wheeler and Osborne and Sidney R. of Senatobia and four daughters, Mrs. J. D.
Gardner and
Mrs. Runyan Grisham of
Wheeler, Mrs. Ottis Spain of
Corinth and Mrs. Murray Spain of Booneville and a host of other relatives. He
is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Osborne and were in

James L. Olive was among the oldest citizens of the county,
being around 90 years of age. He had lived in the Eastern part of
This splendid couple had ten children, 4 sons and 6 daughters born to them. Most of these children are living with families of their own. To these children a priceless legacy was left in lives well spent.
Mr. Olive joined the Confederate Army at About 18 years of age and saw hard service. Returning from the army he took up the struggle as a good citizen and did his part to reestablish our Southern country. He always stood for right and for clean living and made many friends.
